CMRL - Mobile App

ITech India’s relationship with CMRL started in 2015 when we were awarded a project to revamp and maintain their website. Today we are the go-to technology partner for CMRL. We are working with them on transforming technology to meet their unique demands such as beacons for alerts, cardless passenger entry and automation of feeder services for last mile connectivity.

In 2017 ITech India launched the CMRL mobile app that was envisaged with the dual purpose of satisfying the needs of tourists as well as daily commuters.

The Challenge

During the entire Chennai Metro Development process we had to deal with a number of challenges

  • We were upgrading the app from a hybrid version to a native version for Android and ios in order to combine speed with more dynamic features like to-the-second updated train timings and smartcard recharge
  • GPS services for nearest metro station information, last mile connectivity as well as cultural information for tourists.
  • Ease of use, providing maximum information with minimal input.

The Solution

  • Using agile methodologies our iTech team interacted with our client at every phase of design and development ensuring transparency right through the process.
  • Our aim was to ensure simplicity in user interactivity along with best design practices of every technology e.g. Material Design for Android application and Auto Layout for iPhone.
  • Android versions utilized a combination of Android SDK, Java, SQLite, and Eclipse IDE to make the app available from Android 4.2 and above.
  • For the iOS version of Chennai Metro Rail app we used iPhone SDK, Xcode, Objective-C, Swift and CoreData.
  • The modules developed for both the apps included route information, station information like nearest metro station, timings, platform, parking availability, feeder information, online recharge etc.
  • The inbuilt tourist guide went beyond the metro environment, detailing nearest places of cultural interest, top reviewed restaurants in the vicinity and where to stay

iTech India also developed an end-to-end HRMS system for the CRML employee portal. Integrating the portal with the existing biometric system for building a leave planner and encashment process, along with insurance add-ons, shift hours etc. Automation of revenue collection and reconciliation, ticket media stock management as well as customer complaint management being some of the many back-end systems developed.
